MNBC Rezoning Application Denied – End of Story

(Vancouver, BC) The BC Métis Federation has continued to follow the sale of the Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) property located at 30691 Simpson Road in Abbotsford, BC. This property was purchased by a decision of the MNBC board in June 2009 with no mandate or resolution passed by their members. MNBC borrowed millions and has defended this ill conceived idea as an economic development opportunity of the lifetime.

In August MNBC representatives accused the BC Métis Federation leadership for misleading Métis people in British Columbia regarding public statements made that the MNBC rezoning application was in serious jeopardy. MNBC had a potential buyer but it is our understanding the sale was conditional on the rezoning application. The MNBC rezoning application was denied August 13th and yesterday the City Council from Abbotsford denied the application once again. It is our understanding the inability to sell this property has major implications on the MNBC’s overall financial sustainability.

BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “Once more we are proven 100% correct. The City of Abbotsford denied and we will post the actual video from the presentation by the MNBC representative and subsequent decision to deny the rezoning application so there is no more gossip or misleading statements by any MNBC representatives.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry added, “MNBC representatives have been pushing propaganda for years and this is just the latest issue. Where is the MNBC statement to explain why this fell through? What is their contingency plan?”

MNBC CEO Dale Drown

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “The sale is dead and the video and minute evidence from the City of Abbotsford proves BC Métis Federation has been correct all along. I only hope Métis people and community leaders still watching from the sidelines decide enough is enough. Think of all the statements MNBC leaders and management have made about the sale of the school, about how not to worry, etc. Well they were wrong then and are wrong now. The best alternative for that board is to file for bankruptcy protection and being to ensure programs and services are protected. I hope MNBC members consider their options not to participate in the upcoming MNBC election given this latest major example. Now imagine how much more is correct BC Métis Federation has been saying all along…”

To the Métis citizens who were still following and supporting the “No-Profit/Prophet Dumont” and have anxiously awaited the Abbotsford Council decision, perhaps now you will take a serious look at where the MNBC is headed. There is little doubt that the MNBC/MPCBC is on a roller-coaster to financial ruin, and there is no brake on the cars. The sale of the school would not have solved the financial problem, there are still many millions owed with no way to repay them….

Before you cast your vote in the upcoming (illegal) election, if you still feel that there is a point in voting, ask yourselves some pertinent questions:

    1) Why has Dumont and Company persisted in claiming that the MNBC/MPCBC is not in financial ruin ~ when it has been proven, with their own financial documents that it is?

    2) Who has profited from the millions of dollars poured into the school and the MNBC/MPCBC? Where has the money gone?

    3) Why have our students been denied registration and books in educational institutions unless they pay their tuition and fees “upfront” and why have so many of our students waited months to receive their living allowances?

    4) Why is the MNBC/MPCBC not forthcoming and accountable to the people who ask questions and receive only silence?

    5) Why do you support a dictator who no longer drew a salary, but was paid almost as much in expenses for travel, hotel and meals while he toured the province glad-handing and applying a fresh coat of “bovine scatology” to the actual problems facing the MNBC/MPCBC?

    6) What has been accomplished in the last 4 years? There are no positive accomplishments to be shared….it would seem that everything that Dumont and Company has touched has turned to “feces”….the catering company failed, the school failed, the environmental company ~ has anyone even heard of it since the unveiling?
Communities have been fractured and disenfranchised by the MNBC/MPCBC. Communities are now willingly disassociating themselves from the MNBC/MPCBC.
Employees have been terminated without cause. Board members who dared to question Dumont and his henchmen were summarily suspended. The MNBC/MPCBC has accrued an unprecedented debt that has not been explained…..Their record is dismal and embarrassing to say the least…..

and finally, I would ask you…..

Why would you continue to follow such a regime?

The organization is built on a foundation of lies and deception; Mr. Dumont claims, and CEO Drown supports the claim, that the MNBC/MPCBC represents 60,000 Métis in the Province of BC. In actual fact there are approximately 6,000 Citizenship Cards in existence and in the last election in 2008, less than 1,000 people voted. It is not hard to do the math, and I am confident that the numbers will be far less with the upcoming election. The support for the MNBC/MPCBC is rapidly going down the drain and will take all the hangers-in with it….

Why would you continue to align yourself with the man named Dumont who clearly has no leadership skills, no conscience, no morals and no desire to change. He has proven time and time again that he is less than truthful, not accountable or transparent, as he promised he would be, and has no desire to listen to or work with the grassroots Métis citizens.

His support of the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline Project is a farce, and the handful of Métis supporters he has garnered stand to benefit from this project, small business people who transport people and supplies and those who have been handsomely paid to attend Enbridge meetings, purportedly in support of the Métis citizens….have you received reports from these paid representatives, has the money the MNBC/MPCBC was given to consult paid for consultation meetings in your community? Not likely – it has gone to line the pockets of those who continue to profit off the backs of the grassroots Métis citizens like you and I….

Take a good look into your heart, is this the kind of Métis that you would like to be remembered as? Is this the legacy that Louis Riel died to give us?

    The choices are yours….

    Well that’s all folks!
A valiant attempt by Mr. Drown but again MNBC is a minute late and a dollar short. Just before an election and he admits that there are no other buyers. It is really sad that a poor decision by so few have come to hurt so many. Nothing much more to say on this issue except to ask the last person out to turn out the lights.IMO

    Tansi All:
    A very interesting video;
I was very surprised that the mnbc executive director would use the term ” our organization works closely with the over 60,000 Metis in B.C.
Yes I believe there is over 60,000 Metis in B.C. but not on the mnbc membership roles. I take it that myself and extended family was either not considered in this count, or this was a bit of an oversight ? Work closely with them ??? I am left with questions, how many Metis are now on the Membership roles of the mnbc ? or how many assumed members actually voted in the last mnbc election ?

The other statement that the School had only received one phone call related to interest in industrial land, all the reason that why did they buy the school originally ? I am also sure that the Abbotsford council was very appreciative on the lessons on how to run a city council.

Again my family and I am happy to be a part of the B.C. Metis Federation

Thank you for the video to verify that the school rezoning is dead. Gives us a true perspective on what is really going on. There is no doubt that Dale Drown has had his work cut out for him for the bad decisions of the past CEO and board members. I remember earlier videos that showed the past CEO making a ‘secret’ decision without consulting any of the MNGA members. That poor decision has brought our Nation to its knees. I actually feel sorry for Mr. Drown trying to fix a unworkable situation, but he should come clean on the real situation and not give us false hopes that all will fixed when this white elephant sells, least he admits in the video that only one person has come forward and that they should be beating down the door.

The Nation should not lose vision it is our fearless leaders that got us into this mess. BTW I particularly like the statement 60,000 Metis? Only a handful people carried us into this mess.

  5. Daryl Piper September 12, 2012 at 8:47 am #

Wow what a mess this has turned into for the current MNBC leadership. I remember the 2009 MNBC AGM where the Coalition of Concerned Metis Citizens put forth a non- confidence motion and the primary reason was due to the purchase of the school without any community consultation.

I remember the MNBC leadership boasted this was a win for the Metis people and along with the infamous Meetso catering this was a cash cow with huge profits that would be disbursed through out our communities and this was touted as Metis land base and President Dumont stated this is only the beginning and the potential to purchase additional Metis properties in the future.

Dale Drown states that the MNBC represents approximately 60,000 Metis people which is completely false and they only represent 6000,to 7000 people at best. I suggest Mr Drown check the MNBC citizenship registry. Mr Drown made some interesting comments, Mr Drown said that the Abbotsford school property consisted of 13 acres and only 5 acres were usable because of covenants on the land, and in 8 months there was only one offer on the property, and then he went on to talk about giving the Khalsa school children a chance. The Metis children were never given a chance and the MNBC leadership gambled away our children’s future on that white elephant.

The MNBC are desperate to sell the school and with no buyers bankruptcy is imminent. The damage has already been done and the MNBC leveraged our future and now Bruce Dumont is running for President is he for real. The MNBC leadership is disgraceful and should be held responsible for their incompetence.

  6. Earl Belcourt September 12, 2012 at 9:51 am #

Here we go again. The MNBC once again claims to represent 60,000 Metis in BC when in fact they are lucky to represent 4,000 fools who innocently carry thier cards. My family and I do not carry an MNBC card nor a MPCBC card and we never will. But guess what?? We are Metis and the MNBC does not represent us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Karen September 12, 2012 at 10:08 am #

Quote:” That work involves carefully reviewing other possible options under the existing zoning regulatory regime to enable the establishment of the school within the 25,000 square foot building.”

Quite frankly this is interesting statement. Other possible options for 200 kids in a Industrial area?

  8. Beverly September 12, 2012 at 10:28 am #

This is so untrue again. When will people just stop the lies.
PS.Was there some kind of chemical in this school thats why its hard to sell???If it still exists should they not be worried about the children s health ??
Mr Drown better get his facts straight, because most people in this province,do not recognize MNBC as their provincial body, and they do not represent 60,000.They also did not have any Metis Community Consultation on this issue.By using these words, sounds like someone is trying to manipulate this board into believing they had so much support, this figures are False.Look back and ask those community directly and don’t pick those selective family members groups of MNBC.I think you will find the truth,if you want to hear it.Most people are recognizing the BC Metis Federation now as there Provincial Organization, we have started an honest organization because we are tired of all the bullshit and games.I am looking forward to our AGM Sept Williams lake to start consulting with communities and really get back to our natural honest way of helping our people, see you all there. I think before I work for a company,I would question their credibility, because i would hate to feel like I am DROWNING after the ship sinks. My advice JUMP,and starting swimming. They created this mess and need to.say bankrupt and leave us in peace, take the debit with you.Time to move on and you can change the future by not voting in this illegal election and sign up for the BC Federation.Time to speak up on our pages.People working together.thanks for listening.

I volunteer a lot of my time to help Metis Citizens in the province of BC, with applying for a BCMF card and a lot of the applicants are from MNBC and they are very discouraged with the decision that are being made on their behalf.

Metis Citizens are tired of being miss lead by this organization,( lies and discrepancies )
Their election is just around the corner, and they need the vote of the people to stay a float, you has Metis people are a funding dollar to this organization. So please take a look at their agenda for the future and take a look at the past and make a right decision for the future of the Nation.
With this last pack of lies about the sale of the school aka ( WHITE ELEPHANT ) and
60,0000 Metis that follow them, I think not, maybe they should read the letters that are sent to them about Metis who want their name off of their registry list, so again they are assuming
for themselves that you as a citizen have no voice

  10. Joe September 12, 2012 at 6:24 pm #

MNBC essentially buys the school in secret without consulting their community and it now wants to sell it by pushing to bring it to the “community information meeting.” ???

This maneuveuring demonstrates how this group simply manipulates the democratic process for its own ends.

They will deny and blame right to the end. Behind the accusations, the denial, the ongoing intimidation of Metis citizens, its only ever been about their desire to keep power at any cost, power without being responsible to the shared public good. This is tyranny at the expense of citizens engagement. They press for conformity at the expense of freedom of speech.

They have no other method than the course they are on because they have all failed as leaders.

    Tansi All;
In looking at what comes out of the mnbc, it it looks very much that everything is spin doctored.

A word of caution to the past, current and future spin doctors, In the Metis people are that most of us are reasonably intelligent , we know what is a pile of Mustus omi (Bull Crap),
If the spin doctors persist in the their efforts , many of us can see the time when your spinning will result in a deep pit of your own making, Careful you could Drown in it.

This looks like a delaying tactic as the ED tries to protect his current President until after the election and keep his job in the process. To think the council would play politics with child safety would be unthinkable.Their only other option is to bribe 2 of the opposing council members…. Stay tuned.
