Métis Cultural Activities in McLeese Lake and Vancouver Continue to Build Support

(Vancouver, BC) BC Métis Federation continues to support Métis culture as a priority throughout BC. This past weekend the BC Métis Federation and partner community Cariboo Chilcotin Métis Association (CCMA) worked together once again to host the Mètis Music Jamboree at McLeese Lake. In addition BC Métis Federation was requested to provide Métis cultural performance as part of the Vancouver Singapore Club’s celebration event Sunday evening as Singapore Canadian’s celebrate their 50 years of independence.

BC Métis Federation provided sponsorship for the Métis Music Jamboree hosted by CCMA and there were roughly 250 that attended the Métis cultural event this weekend. Several music performances were provided including JJ Lavallee as well as support from Vice President Rene Therrien. This was the third year CCMA has undertaken this important event and it appears CCMA will continue in 2016.

BC Métis Federation board member JJ Lavallee led the Métis performance at the Vancouver Singapore Club event Sunday evening with support from Fagon Furlong and dancers Rowan and Quin Pickering.

BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “This was an excellent weekend for Métis culture and education. The event at McLeese Lake was a success and there were several people in attendance. The Vancouver Singapore Club celebration was also very important. There were a number of government representatives and local Singapore leaders in attendance and the Métis cultural showcase was well received.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “Thank you to our leadership, partners, and supporters committed to a vision of support and education for Métis culture. This weekend was excellent.”
