(Surrey, BC) BC Métis Federation, and community partner Nova Métis Heritage Association (Nova), was proud to support the Michif Historical and Cultural Preservation Society with the expanded Métis showcase at the tenth (10th) annual multicultural celebration at the Fusion Festival this past weekend in Surrey, BC. The Fusion Festival had over 45 “nations” sharing their culture with attendance estimated over 100,000 people. The festival is hosted at Holland Park.
Surrey has one of the largest concentration of Métis populations in Canada and Nova supports membership with an estimated 2500 members. The Métis showcase included musical and jigging performances, Métis trappers tent, sash weaving, and paddle making.
BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “We were proud to work with our community partners to expand the Métis presence. In fact our Métis showcase was one of the best throughout the Fusion Festival. We have interactive activities as well as the Red River Cart on display.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry added, “I thank the entire team. Thank you Michif Historical and Preservation Society representatives Derrick Whiteskycloud and Dale Haggerty. I also must recognize other BC Métis Federation team members including Sherry Daniels, Mechtild Morin, JJ Lavallee, Fagon Furlong, Rowan Pickering, Quinn Pickering, and many more volunteers that made this weekend such a success.”
