Productive Meeting with Government of BC

BC Métis Federation thanks the Provincial Government of BC, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Honourable Scott Fraser for the productive meeting yesterday, November 21st, in Victoria.

Minister Fraser stated; “I will continue to meet with you to ensure all Métis in BC are represented. Your members have interests that I need to know about, this is the start of that.”

    That’s the first step, earlier this year a federal government spokesperson stated, “federal government cannot settle Metis suits unilaterally, the provinces need to be at the table and that will happen at the second phase of negotiations.

    I believe because of the Natural Resources Transfer act of 1930 their hands are tied when the federal government transferred powers to the provinces.

    Although the Daniels case determined us as Metis are federal entities and Indians by definition. Other acts need to be amended in order for our communities to deal directly with the federal government in rights determination.
