Final Farewell Ken Fisher

Surrey, BC – BC Métis Federation leadership, Nova Métis Heritage Association, and countless other organizations (including Métis Nation BC) spent this past Saturday remembering Ken Fisher. Ken’s Celebration of Life hosted by the BC Métis Federation brought together over 130 friends and family to remember the life and times of Ken Fisher.

Ken’s significant contributions, work, and at times antics were shared as friends and family recounted some of the memorable stories about Ken. A tribute video and final featured Métis Matters Radio Show for Ken was the highlight for many. BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated, “This was a powerful way to say good bye to our friend and one of our leaders from our Métis community in BC. To witness the large number of speakers from such a diverse crowd showcased the impact Ken’s life had on so many people. We heard from the City of Surrey, former MLA, Coop Radio, and numerous friends and family.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “Thank you to everyone who attended and donated to support the Celebration of Life. We will all miss Ken and we know he was there with us celebrating and appreciating the friends and family that remembered his life and times.”

BC Métis Federation has now posted the tribute video, pictures, one of Ken’s speeches, and final Métis Matters Radio Show on the facebook page and website.

Loved the video and especially the music. That was very appropriate to honour Ken.

I would like to thank all the people that showed up to honor my friend, warrior, leader, Mr. Fisher, my heart aches for the loss of this man, that was a true warrior, that never backed down from anything that came across his path in life.I have been his shadow for many years, working with his wife Joyce and came to know a different aspect of who he was as a leader. This man had a softer part of him that a few really saw, I have seen the kindness that he showed to people in need, he bought lunch for the less fortunate and I remember a time he took a man that used to come to Nova for a hot cup of coffee and a slice of whatever Joyce baked that week, he took this guy to the dentist and bought him dentures so he could eat his food, it just amazes me, that he was like two different people all wrapped in one, and when his Joyce became ill, I spent a great deal of time with her in her home and when she could not take care of herself and went to hospice til her death, I never left her or Ken, and that morning when I got the call that she passed, I lost two friends Ken, never recovered from her death, he held in his arms and kissed her good bye, and told her till we meet again, little did I know, that day would be so soon, Rest in Peace my dear friend, and give my Joycey Baby a hug and kiss
