The BC Métis Federation (BCMF) is a non-profit association that works with Métis communities to ensure the well-being of BCMF members. Through grassroots efforts, BCMF advocates on behalf of its many members, living across the province.

We are looking for an experienced, proactive assistant to work collaboratively with our team on specific short- and long-term projects. In this role, you will oversee tasks delegated to you by the Director of Industry Engagement, or the Procurement and Employment Coordinators, collaborate with outside vendors and contractors, and track and report on budgets. You will need to be highly organized, adaptable, and able to prioritize tasks while working independently. The ability to motivate others and keep team members on task in a positive and encouraging manner is also a must-have skill in this position.

 

JOB DUTIES: 

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Industry Engagement and team to maximize productivity
  • Organize and monitor schedules and see that deadlines are met
  • Coordinate efforts within the team and with external partners efficiently
  • Monitor budget and help ensure resources are used efficiently
  • Complete any necessary administrative tasks, such as research and email
  • Support and organize the BCMF’s CSI Vendor List for TMEP.
  • Support,  BCMF’s Vendor Lists for each project required
  • Support procurement team  with bi-weekly project updates 
  • Ensure BCMF’s Business Directory is up to date, and add new businesses.
  • Inquire on behalf of contractor partners for grant funding 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required
  • Additional certifications that exemplify a desire for continued education preferred
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills including negotiation
  • Able to proactively address potential issues
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Collaborative working style and team-player attitude
  • Able to work independently with little supervision
  • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Able to thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven work environment
  • Willing to travel for meetings with contractors when required (when safe to do so).

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • This position is open to remote work or can work from the BCMF Office in Vancouver, British Columbia.
  • Working hours for this position are Monday-Friday 9-5 pm, with email access over the weekend. 
  • Evenings and weekends may be required for events or travel.

Qualifications

The Finance Clerk should be in the process of obtaining a professional accounting designation (CGA, CMA, or CA).  This position requires several years’ experience in a non-for-profit organization and should have combined experience in budget preparation and administration. 

These are the additional qualifications:

    • Knowledge and experience of accounting practices and procedures 
    • Knowledge of Metis culture to support understanding
    • Extensive knowledge of BC Metis Federations policies and procedures
    • Ability to understand the complexity of changing environments and human behaviours
    • Formal accounting knowledge (budgets, forecasting, monitoring, financial reporting)
    • Ability to assist project leads in developing, plan and implement program budgets 
    • Excellent communication skills, public speaking and presentation skills, active listening skills
    • Computer literate (including Microsoft Word, Excel, database software such as Access, electronic communication tools such as Microsoft Outlook, accounting software)
    • Good time management skills along with the ability to prioritize daily tasks; strong organizational skills and effective decision-making abilities
    • Willingness to work within a team environment.
