Housing is shaping up to be one of the most important issues for Métis people and for all British Columbians. Métis peoples in BC are some of the most underrepresented and marginalized peoples in BC. BCMF local voices and perspectives have been absent in public dialogue and provincial frameworks on discussions around housing and homelessness. It is essential that BCMF members and partner communities are properly represented in the province’s reconciliation dialogue on housing.
BCMF offers a community-based approach to understanding current needs and the historical roots of Métis homelessness. Participating in the online Métis at Home Survey will provide an opportunity for you and your local members to have a local Métis voice in this process and contribute to reconciliation!
This survey has been released to BCMF adult members by email on September 18. As well, the survey was released to community leaders to discuss and share with their leadership teams, and to participate by sharing the survey with their adult membership by email and community social media networks for people to complete.
The survey will officially close on November 30, 2023. Participants who completed the first 80 surveys will receive a $25 gift card. In addition all participants who complete the survey can be entered into a competition for a $300 prize package after the survey closes.
By sharing their thoughts and experiences, BCMF members and local Metis people in community are participating in changing the narrative by setting the stage for increased recognition of self-determining communities as full active partners in the province’s dialogue on housing. This means local Métis people, researchers and communities are equipped with their own knowledge to respond and act on current challenges and establish solutions through meaningful knowledge partnerships.
If you have questions or you require assistance to complete the survey, please email Danielle at D.Desjarlais@BCMetis.com for more information. Or, for more information on the project, please visit the Métis at Home program page.
