BC Métis Assembly of Natural Resources Makes Moves

(Vancouver, BC) The BC Métis Federation has continued to take its place as a new provincial leader in British Columbia for Métis people since it was incorporated in June of 2011. One of the reasons for the BC Métis Federation progress has been the public mismanagement by the other provincial Métis organization known as the Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC). Over the last four (4) years the MNBC has proven itself as extremely poor financial managers and incapable of building Métis self governance or protecting and fighting for Métis rights.

Yesterday the latest in a long line of internal MNBC issues further illustrated the mismanagement within the MNBC. The BC Métis Assembly of Natural Resources (BCMANR) announced their decision to incorporate under the BC societies act and in effect move from the corporate structure of the MNBC. BCMANR Chair Mark Carlson continued to raise a number of internal challenges and identified major issues of conflict and concerns about the MNBC leadership and management. BCMANR was essentially functioning in the role as the MNBC Ministry of Natural Resources.

BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated, “I applaud BCMANR for their leadership to be honest about the ongoing issues within MNBC. The letter speaks for itself and provides Métis people clear evidence of the gravity of the internal dysfunction within MNBC.”

President Henry added, “I found it further interesting that the BCMANR society founding members do not include all of the identified BCMANR regional captains that are listed on the MNBC website but that is for another day.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “It is ironic as MNBC prepares for their General Election we see such increasing dysfunction. The BCMANR proves that industry consultation has been mismanaged and this has far reaching effects when you consider any views being negotiated by MNBC especially as we now have seen with Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines project. Going forward we will monitor any new information and pass it along to provide more education about all issues confronting MNBC. This current MNBC board has proven they cannot even keep their strongest supporters together and slowly but surely the MNBC is cannibalizing.”
