BCMF 9th AGM – Board Elected

(Vancouver, BC) BC Métis Federation leaders and team members are celebrating our 9th successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held in our head office in Vancouver, BC on Saturday December 5th. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the AGM was held with some participation in the office plus online Zoom and was simultaneously streamed on the BC Métis Federation Facebook page. There were approximately 40 delegates in attendance on zoom, as well as over 700 views through the Facebook Live event. These attendees included voting members from many locations from across British Columbia plus partners and additional family members.

This AGM required the election for the board for the next 2 years. The election results for the board members are:

  1. President – Keith Henry
  2. Vice President – Rene Therrien
  3. Secretary – Joe Desjarlais
  4. Treasurer – Betty Fisher
  5. At Large positions –
    1. Angel Fisher
    2. Jeremy Lavallee
    3. Cindy Wilgosh
    4. Jacqui Swaisland
    5. Greg Mazur
    6. Earl Belcourt

This election marks the complete re-election of the board. This is a sign of the strong support from members and partner communities.

BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated, “Given the new realities of COVID-19, this AGM was a major success. Members approved the 2019-2020 Audited Financial Statements, supported/reinforced the exoneration resolution of Louis Riel, and showcased current progress for 2020-2021. This organizational work is now built on the new vision created within the BC Métis Federation 2021-2024 strategic plan. The new strategic planning document outlines key deliverables and projects that are currently being worked on and a clear vision for the future.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “Thank you to the tireless efforts of our board members, project leads, staff members and partner communities. BC Métis Federation is building success and this work could not be done without continuous support and dedication. The AGM ran flawlessly and the recorded video remains public for member to watch and review. Therefore, I must also give special thanks to Craig van der Merwe from The Update Company and Chelsea Mazur from ElectionBuddy with their technical skills and maintaining our online voting system. We look forward to furthering our work with our partner communities and will continue to grow together into the new year.”

BC Métis Federation is building for 2021-2022 and revised bylaws. Watch for the future information and engagement opportunities for members and partner communities.
