BCMF & NMHA Christmas Celebration

(Surrey, BC) –The BC Mètis Federation and Nova Mètis Heritage Association (Nova) worked together to bring a family Christmas Potluck event for families held earlier today in Surrey, BC. There were approximately 150 people in attendance with several Mètis children visited by Santa who agreed to wear a Mètis sash. BC Mètis Federation leadership and volunteers arranged gifts for the children and door prizes for all who attended. This Christmas event was a success and the room was packed. There was a festive holiday spirit in the room and Mètis culture was showcased as part of the celebration day. BC Mètis Federation President Keith Henry stated; “The BC Métis Federation is committed to supporting Mètis communities and families. Nova is one of our member communities and they represent roughly 2000 Mètis members in Surrey and area. What better way to show support for our communities than an event for families as we head into the holiday season? Nova leadership has continued to maintain and office and is a hub of community activities and connections. The BC Mètis Federation was proud to contribute to true community support and these BC Métis Federation actions speak far louder than words.” BC Mètis Federation President Henry added; “Thank you to our volunteer team that made this event such a success; Maxine and Phil Lavallee, Sherri Daniels, Donna Polgar, Norm Eyford, Joyce Fisher, Andy McGillis, Nova President Ken Fisher and so many others.

BC Mètis Federation and our member communities such as Nova continue to show how a dedicated team of volunteers can make a difference for our Mètis culture and Nation. The children had a great time and everyone was proud to be Mètis who attended.” BC Metis Federation President Henry concluded; “Thank you to the Nova board and BC Mètis Federation leaders for the commitment to work together for this event. Today was another success of how BC Mètis Federation puts community and families first and foremost. We are honoured to assist and support our communities because our Nation is about their needs. Our actions speak for the values at the BC Mètis Federation.”
