(Vancouver, BC) The BC Métis Federation board met in Vancouver at the office where significant business was completed this past Friday, February 13th and Saturday, February 14th. The board meeting was attended by the entire board which included a number of key partner presentations.
The board addressed updates regarding important proponent projects that affect our members with TransCanada and Enbridge. In addition the board continues to review Kinder Morgan Canada’s proposed TransMountain expansion. The board also completed governance decisions including ongoing board assessment, approval of past minutes, approval of the current financial statements, meeting with the auditor, preparing cultural project preparation for 2015, review Michif language project administration, plus several other ongoing reporting and project updates.
Two of the main outcomes were the approval of the BC Métis Federation Development Corporation draft business plan and approval of the first BC Métis Federation Children and Family Manual to assist members and families with an information resource.
Finally the board has been approached to review a new partnership benefit agreement that would secure millions in business development benefits and other feature but this decision has been deferred until further notice by the board.
BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “It was a very productive meeting. We passed roughly 16 motions and established several action items requiring follow up. It is clear BC Métis Federation will continue to grow and evolve with new government and other partner programs and initiatives the organization is securing for our members and partner communities.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “There will be significant follow up required and our leadership will work to address. The draft minutes are being posted ASAP to ensure the membership is informed. I encourage the members to review these draft minutes. I am particularly proud of our board for approving our BC Métis Federation Development Corporation business plan and recommendations. This sets the stage for our efforts to become truly self sufficient while supporting Metis businesses that we have been registering for the past few months. This initiative and several other announcements will be coming soon. I can assure our members and partners that BC Métis Federation has never been stronger.”
