(Vancouver, BC) BC Métis Federation leaders and elected board members met virtually on Wednesday, February 17th for the first board meeting of the new year. The meeting included a very full agenda with the goal of reviewing and approving the 2021-2022 Action Plan, key components of the first phase of the federation’s three-year Strategic Plan.
BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated, “I’m very happy with the progress the team is making. I’m grateful that the board reviewed some key projects including bylaw amendments, analysis of COVID-19 impacts to our community/members, a new justice strategy, Michif Language Project progress, Trans Mountain Expansion Emergency Response Plan, and much more. This year is exceptional in so many ways and with the support of the board and the hard work of our staff at the Federation, I’m confident that our members will agree this is going to be our best year yet.”
Updated bylaws were drafted and presented for review. The board established a committee to complete the final draft, and expect the next steps will require one final board review and the preparation for a Special General Meeting with the required 30 days’ notice for members.
Henry continued, “A Special General Meeting will be scheduled shortly to give our members an opportunity to vote on our bylaw updates. The purpose of these updates is to ensure that we as an organization are protecting the Métis rights and interest of our members. We hope for members to plan on attending this important meeting sometime in April. Members are encouraged to watch for information which will be posted on the BC Métis Federation’s website soon. All voting members will receive an email with a link to the review package, and are reminded to ensure their membership is intact and contact information is up to date.”
The draft minutes from this recent board meeting will be available to members in the coming days for full review and posted on the BCMF Minutes page on this website.
