(Vancouver, BC) The BC Métis Federation continues to work with a number of communities as there is substantial progress to rebuild a new governing representative organization by and for Métis people in British Columbia.
This past weekend the Vancouver Métis Cultural Society held their Annual General Meeting in North Vancouver. Elections were held and the following individuals were elected to the VMCS Executive Committee
Russ Roy President
Ron Paradis Vice President
Warren Bell Treasurer
Lorraine Sickavish Secretary
In addition there were a number of other board members who took positions on the VMCS board as well. BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated; “I want to congratulate the individuals who stepped up once again to assist their community. This is not an easy task given the needs of many of our people and families.”
President Henry added; “I look forward to continuing our work with the VMCS leaders. It is great to see the re-election of VMCS President Russ Roy along with Vice President Ron Paradis and of course other VMCS board members both new and old. VMCS leaders will continue their efforts to assist the VMCS members. There are many issues to consider in Vancouver such as a clear need for increased Métis cultural activities and support, clarifying opportunities with Seaspan, understanding the proposed expansion of the Trans Mountain Line by Kinder Morgan, plus so much more.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “VMCS continues to build their organization and the BC Métis Federation will work to support their needs and assist where needed. I congratulate all of the VMCS board members and thank the delegates for the warm reception of our representatives Mr. Joe Desjarlais and Mr. Ken Fisher who provided a BC Métis Federation update.”
