BC Metis Federation Continues Support for Idle No More

GroupPHoto(Vancouver, BC) –The BC Mètis Federation leadership and about 30 members continued action today by joining about 800 people at Native Education College at noon in Vancouver, BC. A march was held from Native Education College to City Hall in Vancouver. BC Métis Federation leaders including President Keith Henry, Vice President Daryl Piper, Secretary Joe Desjarlais, Treasurer Tim St. Denis, and board members Beverly Lambert and Maxine Lavallee.

Mr. Keith Henry, BC Métis Federation stated, “We continue to demonstrate BC Mètis Federation leadership for Mètis people on issues that are relevant to all Métis people in this province. Métis people are facing a very challenging future and we must stand up and show support together with all Aboriginal peoples in this trying time.” BC Metis Federation President Henry concluded; “It appears the First Nation Summit in Ottawa has left many unanswered and important questions for many First Nation leaders and communities from across the country. The Federal Government has refused to alter Bill C-45 or Bill C-38 and going forward there appears to be more division. This has significant potential impacts and I am confident Idle No More campaigns will increase with more protests across Canada. As Mètis I believe we need to support the Idle No More movement as it also impacts our communities and members. Today the focus in First Nations but we all know issues with Mètis language and cultural support, equitable program access, Mètis child and family service support, health care, elders care, and so much more has to be addressed. For these reasons we need to stand together for our future. All Canadians need to understand that doing nothing or almost nothing is not the answer any further for all Aboriginal people.”
