BC Métis Federation Development Corporation Announced

(Vancouver, BC) The BC Métis Federation leaders have completed the planning and preparation for the implementation of the BC Métis Federation owned BC Métis Federation Development Corporation. Since November of this past year consultants were contracted to complete a comprehensive business plan that would be created to support Métis business owners and future joint venture opportunities. During the recent board meeting in Vancouver the board approved the final plan.

The Development Corporation outlines the operations and administration for the next number of years to build this business while ensuring the separation of politics from economic development initiatives. The primary objective of the Development Corporation is to provide revenues to support the BC Métis Federation, members, business owners, and partner communities. BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated; “I am excited to release the comprehensive business plan for our members and business owners. The plan provides a clear plan for our future sustainability and efforts to separate politics from our economic development which is a point strongly supported by various reports including the well known recommendations and findings in the Harvard Report on American Indian Economic Development released in 2007.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry added “Over the next few months BC Métis Federation will be taking steps to implement such as a call for independent board members, contracting of an Executive Director, and many other administrative steps.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded; “Thank you to our consultants Brian Payer and Associates. I also want to thank the Aboriginal Capital Corporation Tale’Awtxw Aboriginal Capital Corporation (TACC) for the project contribution. BC Métis Federation leaders allocated other resources to ensure this project was completed and we will be investing going forward to launch the Development Corporation. With this plan BC Métis Federation current and future leaders can focus on creating opportunities and the Development Corporation will ensure proper execution. This is very exciting and I hope members will consider applying for our initial board as we take next steps. The Development Corporation will also taken important steps to support over 30 Métis businesses that have signed up on our current business directory. Watch for future updates and I encourage members to read the plans carefully.”
