BC Métis Federation Development Corporation Project Approved

(Vancouver, BC) BC Métis Federation leadership is implementing a number of strategic initiatives to enhance the future of the organization, members, and partner communities. One of the key BC Métis Federation priorities has been the implementation of an economic development strategy which includes the establishment of a development corporation.

BC Métis Federation has been approved by the Tale’awtxw Aboriginal Capital Corporation (TACC) for the development of a business plan and financial statements for the development corporation. TACC has approved funding under their Business Equity Program. A consulting firm has been identified to support the project and BC Métis Federation will be providing 25% of the total project costs.

BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated, “Thank you to TACC for the support. TACC is one of a number of Aboriginal capital corporations in British Columbia who assist Métis and all Aboriginal communities and entrepreneurs. Our board will be meeting in November to initiate the project and review support for completion from the identified consulting firm of Brian Payer and Associates.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “This is a very important project to establish an economic development entity. The BC Métis Federation Development Corporation will ensure strong corporate governance, support members and their businesses, mitigate liabilities for future economic initiatives, and separate politics from economic project opportunities. Having a business plan to present to members, entrepreneurs and partners is important. I look forward to the future work together with our board, consultant and members. BC Métis Federation continues to increase support and recognition of our important work.”
