Vancouver, British Columbia, August 10, 2023 — BC Métis Federation (BCMF) announced today the success of the inaugural months of its Emergency Assistance Program, which is designed to support members facing costs associated with an illness or disability.

Launched in April of this year, the Emergency Assistance Program is available to full BCMF members who need support covering costs related to essential health equipment, medical supplies, or travel costs for medical appointments. So far, twelve BCMF members have been provided with much-needed support, easing financial and emotional burdens during potentially stressful times.

“It feels incredibly rewarding to address our members’ needs and provide direct support and an immediate positive impact on their quality of life,” says Drake Henry, Health Project Coordinator. “Thank you to all those members who have reached out to us as we build this new health department in the BC Métis Federation. We sincerely appreciate your support and patience as we continue to help those who are in need, and create research projects to improve our people’s health.”

The BC Métis Federation’s Emergency Assistance Program has so far supported members with over $12,000 in financial assistance, and new applications are coming in every week. Applications for the Emergency Assistance Program are confidential, and anyone who is a full BCMF member can apply by filling out the form on the BCMF website. The BCMF is committed to providing support and services to members across British Columbia and is pleased with the success of this program to date.
