(Surrey, BC) The BC Métis Federation continues to honour Métis and all veterans each year on Remembrance Day. Thousands of Métis people attend Remembrance Day ceremonies across British Columbia and Canada.
BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry attended a Remembrance Day event at the Whalley Legion in Surrey to support a number of Métis veterans including Irene Flett, Charles Larocque, and Noel Poitras. The event was well attended with thousands present. BC Métis Federation laid a wreath with the Métis veterans as a sign of respect and recognition on behalf of the BC Métis Federation leaders, partner communities, partner agencies and members.
BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated, “This is such an honour and thank you to Nova Métis Heritage Association President Ken Fisher for this work today to ensure Métis veterans are honoured on this important day.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “Thank you to all veterans and a special thank you to partner and National President Richard Blackwolf for his work with the Canadian Aboriginal Veterans and Serving Members Association. BC Métis Federation and Canadian Aboriginal Veterans and Serving Members Association signed a memorandum of Understanding in 2012 recognising the need to work together. We know there continues to be many veterans issues today and we will strive to support as requested and needed.”
