(Vancouver, BC) The BC Mètis Federation continues to celebrate a number of successes in only their first year of operation since incorporating in June of 2011 as a new alternative provincial democratic representative choice for Métis people throughout BC. Today BC Mètis Federation has signed agreements with a number of Métis community organizations and has implemented a new provincial membership process for individuals to become members with the BC Mètis Federation.
BC Mètis Federation leaders have become significant players in the Aboriginal political landscape. Main stream media continues to interview BC Mètis Federation representatives to hear their opinions on current topics, industry has taken an increasing interest continuing to meet with BC Métis Federation and various levels of government representatives are inquiring and meeting with BC Mètis Federation as a legitimate provincial Métis representative organization.
The BC Mètis Federation board has now approved their official first Annual General Meeting will be held in Williams Lake on Saturday, September 22nd, 2012. This decision was made for a number of reasons including a priority to have a central location for Métis people to attend throughout BC, commitment to community involvement with Cariboo Chilcotin Métis Association as a co-host, and completion of the first BC Mètis Federation board elections. Attached is the BC Mètis Federation board application for members to consider applying and the elections will be held during the Annual General Meeting as part of the agenda.
BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated, “Our board is very excited to make this announcement. This Annual General Meeting will showcase the progress of the BC Mètis Federation and will bring together a true grass roots event where Métis people and their families can celebrate our culture.”
President Henry added, “Our friends at the Cariboo Chilcotin Mètis Association are already planning for a great event that will showcase our Métis culture and ability to support the local community by making them meaningful partners. This is the way it should be and our board is excited to continue planning with the CCMA board members. ”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “I strongly encourage BC Mètis Federation members to apply for a board position. The BC Mètis Federation needs to continue building a leadership team and if there are several candidates, great as this is the true democratic way. This will also put to rest outside criticisms that the BC Mètis Federation is self appointed. Our initial board was the founding members and this first election process will legitimize our democratic mandate. Please review the BC Mètis Federation application process for your consideration.”
The BC Mètis Federation will be posting their Annual General Meeting draft agenda and event details, including hotel options, by August 15th. BC Mètis Federation board applications must be submitted as by August 31st, 2012.
