BC Métis Federation Statement on Board Resignations

(Vancouver, BC) BC Métis Federation has confronted significant internal board division since the recent election of fourteen (14) board members only a few months ago on September 27th, 2014 in North Vancouver. This week five (5) board members resigned joining a resignation last month by a previous board member.

BC Métis Federation members Ms. Gloria Rendell (Prince Rupert), Dr. Debra Canada (Kamloops), Mr. Patrick Pocha (Prince George), Mrs. Marlene Swears (Williams Lake), and Mrs. Maxine Lavallee (Langley) resigned together. They join former board member Gregory LeBlanc who resigned in October.

BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated, “This is an unfortunate decision by individuals who formed a team and could not control the board to support their mandate. We are posting their resignation letters that are filled with incorrect claims and significant contradictions. To address the issues I presented a number of points on Métis Coffee Talk last night and I encourage all members to watch the show. I also encourage members to read their letters and be aware of their actions based on unfounded and inaccurate views.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “We have a dedicated board of eight (8) members committed to working together to continue our good work. Our bylaws allow the current reduced board legally and we will carry forward focusing on positive growth. Moreover we have significant work to do and will carry on. I am confident the members will see through this political maneuvering by selfish individuals. Our board is confident moving forward and we look forward to working with our members and partner communities. This is just a bump and let’s get back to work.” Be sure to watch Métis Coffee Talk to gain more insight at www.bcmetis.com/coffee-talk/
