Dear Mr. Dumont,

I am writing to you in your role as the President of the non-profit corporation known as the Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC). MNBC continues to be contracted to provide a variety of socio-economic programs and services for Métis people in British Columbia from the federal and provincial governments. We are of the view that these are public funding through these programs and services and as such MNBC is publicly accountable.

Therefore, please accept this letter as a request sent on behalf of the British Columbia Métis Federation (BCMF) for a copy of the MNBC 2010-2011 Financial Statements and the Management Letter provided by the MNBC auditing firm. This BCMF request is specifically for the reporting period April 1st, 2010 – March 31st, 2011.

MNBC’s auditing firm Manning Elliot has served the MNBC for several years and it is our understanding this firm continues to complete the auditing role. MNBC’s fiscal year ended March 31st, 2011 and it has now been over three months and we would assume the MNBC 2010-2011 audit is completed.

BCMF members continue to review the negative MNBC spending trend that has resulted in consecutive unprecedented financial losses the last three years as follows:
1. April 1st, 2008 – March 31st, 2009: Additional loss of $248,849.00
2. April 1st, 2009 – March 31st, 2010: Additional loss of $1,312.327.00
3. April 1st, 2010 – March 31st, 2011: According to the MNBC Debt Recovery Plan released in May 2011 there is an additional loss projected at $511,068.00

BCMF continues to provide MNBC an opportunity to explain losses in the last three years that total $2,072,244.00 in the past 36 months alone. This has contributed to the total MNBC insolvency of $2,300,000.00 according to the MNBC Debt Recovery Plan as of March 31st, 2011.

BCMF looks forward to MNBC providing a public copy of the MNBC 2010-2011 Financial Statements without delay. BCMF also continues to invite MNBC representatives to attend our weekly talk show entitled “Coffee Talk” to discuss the financial crisis and other important matters for Métis people in British Columbia.
