Vancouver, British Columbia, January 25, 2024 — Due to the rising cost of groceries across the province, and because of urgent appeals from members in financial need, the BC Métis Federation (BCMF) launched its Food Security Program just before the holiday season. So far to date, BCMF has helped 70 families cover their grocery bills this winter, providing them with $100 towards the cost of groceries.

“BCMF is committed to supporting members facing food security challenges,” said BCMF President Keith Henry. “We’ve heard the call from many of our members that they were in need, and we’re glad that we’ve been able to mobilise funds to assist where we can, especially during the recent holidays.”

Assistance is still available for those in need. BCMF has provided its Partner Communities with funding to provide local assistance to members in need. Any BCMF members affiliated with a Partner Community may contact their local organisation to apply for assistance. For those BCMF members not affiliated with a Partner Community, assistance is available directly from BCMF and they can apply online at https://bcmetis.com/eap.
