The BC Métis Federation is requesting member submissions of prayers in English for the purpose of translating them to French-Michif. The resulting collection of prayers in both languages will be made publicly available for anyone to use. Whether the prayer will be used simply to open a meeting, or if it is used solemnly upon the passing of a loved one, the goal of this initiative is to provide members with the option of speaking the prayer in French-Michif, as a way to strengthen the connection with Métis culture.
BCMF is requesting prayer submissions for the following topics:
- Youth
- Children
- Elders
- Families
- Meals
- Opening prayers
- Closing prayers
- Overcoming obstacles
- Leadership
- Nationhood
- Grief and loss
- Illness and healing
- Mental and emotional comfort and strength
- Celebrations and seasonal occasions
All of the submitted prayers will be reviewed by an internal selection committee, though not all of the prayers will be selected for translation. For those that are selected for translation, the person who submitted the prayer will receive a $100 honorarium as a thank you.
If you have a prayer you would like to submit for translation to French-Michif, you can do so using the form below or by emailing it to J.Cardinal@BCMetis.com. This call for prayer submissions opens November 1st and will run until November 30.
