(Vancouver, BC) – The BC Métis Federation is pleased to announce the inaugural BC Métis Federation Development Corporation Executive Director position selection of Shauna Benson. The announcement is the result of two months of searching including an extensive interview process.

Shauna was selected given her vast experience in business planning and economic development having worked in various economic development officer roles and project s with non Aboriginal and Aboriginal communities over the years.

BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “Our board is proud to make this announcement today and Shauna will join the team starting Monday, June 1st. She completed a secondary informal interview with the board during our recent meeting and it was agreed that there was a good fit and strong expertise given her academic and interpersonal skills.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “The implementation of the BC Métis Federation Development Corporation is paramount to our future sustainability. Our intention is to support Métis culture and communities through an arm’s length non political economic development corporation known as the BC Métis Federation Development Corporation. We are preparing a road map for future work including the implementation of the new Development Corporation board, Industry Forum in September, plus several other steps. Therefore Shauna will hit the ground running to ensure proper execution of the necessary planning. The Executive Director role will be critical to support Métis small businesses, joint venture agreements, and new business opportunities that enable future sustainability for all.
