On August 25, 2019, officials from the Department of Finance (Finance) and representatives of the B.C. Métis Federation (BCMF) participated in exploratory discussions with respect to Indigenous economic participation in the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (the Project). As stated in a letter sent to BCMF by the Minister of Finance on July 9, 2019, the purpose of this introductory meeting was to develop a preliminary understanding of what “economic participation” meant to BCMF, and to identify design parameters for consideration in the development of a broader engagement process, should a new government choose to move forward in the post-election period.
