(Kelowna, BC) BC Métis Federation leadership and project team members attended the fifth Reconciliation Project meeting in Kelowna this past Friday.
BC Metis Federation once again arranged Métis culture and shared information about the Reconciliation Project launched in partnership between the BC Métis Federation and the Province of British Columbia’s Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (MIRR). This weekend was the fifth (5th) of six (6) community-based meetings which will be held throughout British Columbia between August – October.
The attendees reviewed the meeting materials including the rationale explaining the importance of the project while answering specific items on the questionnaire to clarify what Métis people want for future reconciliation in key areas of education, health, children and family services, and other key topic areas. The agenda also included discussions about the new employment and procurement plans being implemented by the BC Métis Federation.
BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “This was another successful community meeting. This was another strong turn out and people in attendance discussed local key issues including the future of the Trans Mountain Project.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “We look forward to seeing members and friends in Clearwater at the next community event being held at the Elks Hall in Clearwater. The meeting will start at 2:00 PM with a Turkey/Salmon dinner to follow along with Métis entertainment JJ Lavallee, Singer/songwriter/Musician as well as Metis dancers Rowan & Quinn Pickering.”
