The BC Mètis Federation held their first official Annual General Meeting (AGM) earlier today with co-host Cariboo Chilcotin Mètis Association (CCMA). There were seventy eight delegates registered in attendance from all of the Statement of Cooperation communities working with BC Métis Federation. This included Métis community leadership from Fort St. John, Kelly Lake, Hudson Hope, Prince George, Quesnel, Williams Lake, Surrey, Vancouver, North Saanich, Terrace, Prince Rupert, Langley, Richmond, North Vancouver, plus several others.

The BC Métis Federation AGM accomplished a number of key items such as electing the new board of directors for the next two years, addressing key resolutions such as the need for a future Métis summit to further discuss Métis identification, financial reporting, etc. The AGM featured a key presentation by the Yinka Dene Alliance and their views on the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines Project plus NDP Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation Critic Scott Fraser. A number of other partner organizations attended including the White Buffalo Aboriginal and Métis Health Society, Mètis Commission for Children and Family Services, and Canadian Aboriginal Veterans and Serving Members Association. The BC Métis Federation broadcast the AGM throughout the day with approximately 250 viewers online watching the deliberations.
