(Surrey, BC) BC Métis Federation leadership and project team members attended the fourth Reconciliation Project meeting in Surrey this weekend.
BC Metis Federation once again arranged Métis culture and shared information about the Reconciliation Project launched in partnership between the BC Métis Federation and the Province of British Columbia’s Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (MIRR). This weekend was the fourth (4th) of six (6) community-based meetings which will be held throughout British Columbia between August – October.
The attendees reviewed the meeting materials including the rationale explaining the importance of the project while answering specific items on the questionnaire to clarify what Métis people want for future reconciliation in key areas of education, health, children and family services, and other key topic areas. The agenda also included discussions about the new employment and procurement plans being implemented by the BC Métis Federation.
BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “This was a successful community meeting. This was the largest attendance so far and people in attendance discussed culture with others and shared traditional style Métis kitchen party music with the performance by JJ Lavallee, Joe Desjarlais and dancer Quinn Pickering.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “We look forward to seeing members and friends in Kelowna at the next community event being held at the Rutland Centennial Hall, 180 Rutland Road North starting at 6:00 PM on September 21st. Once again BC Métis Federation is arranging Métis music and cultural celebration.”
