Louis Riel Commemoration – Remembering Louis Riel 131 Years Ago

Vancouver, BC – BC Métis Federation leadership continued their work to raise public awareness about Métis people and the life of Louis Riel this past weekend in Vancouver. There was a sold-out audience at the V’ni Dansi‘s 11th annual Louis Riel Day Celebration which took place on November 12th, 2016 at 8:00PM at the Scotiabank Dance Centre in Vancouver. The event featured performances by Yvonne Chartrand, Louis Riel Métis Dancers, and JJ Lavallee and his band.

BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “Thank you to V’ni Dansi and their team for hosting an incredible evening. It was standing room only and there were many non-Métis people in the audience learning about Métis culture and supporting our community.”

BC Métis Federation President concluded, “This weekend we took time to remember the wrongful hanging of Louis Riel 131 years ago in Regina, Saskatchewan. Thank you to all of the partners who contributed to sponsoring this event including the City of Vancouver British Columbia Arts Council, Province of British Columbia, Georgia Straight, and many others. BC Métis Federation was equally proud to support this event and we had a number of members in attendance.”
