(Vancouver, BC) The BC Metis Federation continues to design policies and tools to assist and support partner communities, members, and Métis families throughout BC. This past week the BC Métis Federation board approved the first BC Métis Federation document entitled:
Rights, Responsibilities and Resources for Métis Children and Families on Child Protection Matters
This new tool provides guidance for families facing issues related to family challenges.
BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “This tool was a necessary development for our leaders. We know there is overrepresentation of Métis children and families impacted by the Provincial Government’s Ministry of Child and Family Development (MCFD). BC Métis Federations faces weekly calls from members and families seeking guidance and assistance. Having such a resource for families was a modest step we could provide to support families in need.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “Thank you to our board portfolio holder for children and families Jeanie Cardinal from Kamloops for the significant work to design and complete this manual. She has completed a remarkable job putting the manual together to provide basic contact and resource information for families in need. This work also signals our strong support to assist families and we will continue to find additional programs and services in the future for families in need. We know there is a long way to go in this regard.”
