Metis Commission for Children and Families BC is seeking a Chief Executive Officer

The Métis Commission for Children & Families of BC is seeking a CEO. Since 1998 the Métis Commission has been a registered non-profit society. The Métis Commission for Children and Families of BC is named in provincial legislation as the designated authority for Métis children and families throughout BC. It works with Métis service providing agencies to strengthen and sustain healthy Métis communities for our children and families; and assists in the development of Métis infrastructure in B.C.

We have an opening for a CEO. This position will be on a term contract until September 30, 2014 with the possibility for extension.

General Functions and Responsibilities: The CEO will be the operating head of the Métis Commission and will be in charge and accountable for all the operations of the organization. The CEO will be the representative and decision maker of the Métis Commission and will be responsible to the board of directors. The CEO will sit on working tables on behalf of the Métis people concerning aspects of child welfare and policy and will act as the key spokesperson for all forums, conferences, events, and gatherings unless otherwise delegated.

The CEO will ensure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission and vision; provide leadership in organizational and financial plans and oversee the implementation of plans and policies.

Qualifications and Education: Requires a Master’s Degree in social work or a closely related field with extensive understanding of child welfare policy, practice and legislation AND five years of experience in managing non-profit organizations gained through previous employment or experience gained from a similar position. The CEO must be experienced and knowledgeable regarding Métis history and culture.
