(Vancouver, BC) BC Metis Federation announced the opportunity for people to attend free workshops with a focus on traditional Mètis sash weaving as well as bead working in late March. The first of the three workshops was held last night on April 1st. The next two workshops are being held April 8th, and 15th.
The workshops are being taught by Mechtild Morin and Baillie Redfern who have become cultural teachers of these traditional Métis artistic forms.
BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated; “The first workshop was last night and it was a great turn out. There were a good number of people attending who enjoyed the workshops and many new faces enjoying time together learning about Métis culture.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry added; “The time together felt like community and family. People just enjoyed the time to learn, share a little about themselves and learn basics about these Métis cultural art forms.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “This workshop was only the first and I encourage others to consider attending the next workshops on April 8th and 15th. The workshops are being held at the BC Métis Federation office at 300-3665 Kingsway. All are welcome and attendance is free. The first workshop was a huge success and really brought people together in a good way, learning about one another, sharing stories about family and just having fun. I welcome everyone to share in this experience on April 8th an 15th. Thank you to our teachers Mechtild and Baillie for their time and dedication.”
