Mètis Culture Featured in Richmond for the First Time

(Richmond, BC) – The BC Métis Federation continues to provide Métis culture and education opportunities to British Columbia and this past weekend was featured as part of a Canada Day celebration. The event was hosted by the Vancouver Multicultural Society and was held Sunday, June 28th as part of the International Summer Market in Richmond, BC which was funded in part by Heritage Canada.

BC Métis Federation sponsors a performance featuring JJ Lavallee and featured Métis youth jiggers Rowan and Quinn Pickering. There was a good crowd on hand to watch this Métis cultural showcase and the large majority of attendee’s were non Métis and non Aboriginal.

BC Métis Federation President Henry stated; “Our organization continues to provide Métis pride through working with our team to feature Métis culture. This is just another example and this summer our team has been busy promoting Métis culture with pride.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “There were hundreds of people attending this event in Richmond. Our Métis performers took the main stage to share Métis culture to the large evening crowds. Métis culture continues to be a priority for our leadership and I am very thankful to our team. We lead by example and welcome Métis people to stand with us in this effort. Education and understanding is one of the keys to future reconciliation in British Columbia and Canada with Métis people.”
