Métis Days Cultural Celebration in the Klahowya Village in Stanley Park

(Klahowya Village – Stanley Park) The British Columbia Metis Federation (BCMF) is proud to host the first ever Métis Days cultural celebration in the Klahowya Village in Stanley Park on Saturday, July 9th and Sunday, July 10th. BCMF has coordinated Métis entertainment on the main stage at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM with well know Métis performer Beverly Lambert and her Silver Tip Swingers. Klahowya Village visitors will be able to view all of the events at the Klahowya Village that weekend as well as take time to visit the brand new Métis Trading Post and Artisan Exhibit.

The Métis Trading Post and Artisan Exhibit is a new feature to the Klahowya Village sponsored by the BCMF to showcase some of the Métis culture to the world open every day until September 11th from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. The new Métis feature includes authentic Métis products from Métis artists Hazel Cruze, Mark Milan, Kelly Lake Métis, George and Terry Goulet, and others. The Métis Trading Post and Artisan Showcase also features an original Red River Cart obtained from the Michif Historical and Cultural Preservation Society. The Red River Cart is a strong cultural icon for the Métis people. The artisan exhibit, which is a major feature, has been produced by Mark Milan who has used his talents to weave the Métis sash into a variety of artistic expressions that draw upon traditional and contemporary designs.

BCMF is hosting an evening event on Saturday July 9th 6:00PM – 9:00PM as the official commemoration of this new Métis feature. The celebrations will take place in the new Metis Trading Post and Artisan Exhibit. Everyone is invited including Métis people, non-Métis, Provincial and Federal Government, Civic and Park Board officials, stakeholders and of course you and your family.
