Métis Leadership in Prince George Turns to New Chapter

(Prince George, BC) BC Metis Federation continues to work with partner organizations throughout British Columbia. Last night BC Métis Federation assisted the Northern Interior Métis Cultural Society (NIMCS) from Prince George. NIMCS was incorporated in 2012 and this was their first official Annual General Meeting of the society.

The NIMCS meeting included a discussion and status update on the NIMCS work since incorporating, including key meetings in the near future. A number of items were discussed as well and a new Executive Committee was elected. The new NIMCS President is Richard Nault, Vice President is Bonnie Gunton, and Secretary/Treasurer Rose Bortolon.

BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated; “I want to start by thanking the previous NIMCS board members who donated time and energy to build NIMCS. Outgoing President Patrick Pocha has been a strong Métis advocate and he will maintain his position on our provincial BC Métis Federation board and we thank him for his work and assistance with NIMCS.”

NIMCS President Richard Nault stated; “I am getting involved in the Métis community once more because I want to see more Métis culture for our children and families. I have dedicated years of support for my Métis community and it is time to step up and once again I will try to lead by example.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “I look forward to working with the new NIMCS Executive Committee and we have a lot of work in front of us. Together we will work to support a better future in Prince George for all Métis families.”
