In 2011 a number of Métis people decided to move forward and develop an alternative provincial Métis representative organization from the MNBC and so began the BC Métis Federation. This situation was defined by six (6) specific reasons. One of these reasons and concerns at that time was the financial mismanagement of the MNBC. This was created by growing MNBC deficits in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
This was further increased at this time by the decision of MNBC board and management to purchase a school and other ill-conceived economic development schemes. The fact is, each year since 2011, when the BC Métis Federation formed as a democratic alternative MNBC financial statements continue to reinforce the serious financial challenges today and for years to come.
