Michif Language Project in Surrey Completed

(Surrey, BC) The BC Métis Federation leadership and the partner community Nova Métis Heritage Association (Nova) from Surrey completed the implementation of the first Michif language project this past weekend in Surrey.

BC Métis Federation thanks the leadership at Nova for their work with BC Métis Federation to implement this project funded by Heritage Canada. BC Métis Federation team members are preparing the final reporting which will include a project CD in the coming weeks that will be made available to the public in the coming month.

BC Métis Federation President Henry stated; “I want to personally thank the members from Nova who participated in the language project. This is an important step to ensuring our Métis culture survives and is proudly shared. I thank Mr. Francis Fisher for his teaching to members and it was clear there was real pride through the delivery.”

BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded; “We are working with Heritage Canada to fund the next steps in program delivery. We are working on expanding the Michif language programs and hope we can assist the participants in Surrey to take next steps in their language education. Thank you to Heritage Canada and the leadership from Nova to deliver this project which is important to our future.”
