(Williams, BC) The BC Métis Federation leadership and the partner community Cariboo Chilcotin Métis Association (CCMA)) from Williams Lake completed the implementation of the first Michif language project Monday evening.
BC Métis Federation thanks the leadership at CCMA for their work with BC Métis Federation to implement this project funded by Heritage Canada. As noted on Monday BC Métis Federation team members are preparing the final reporting which will include a project CD from the projects in Surrey and Williams Lake that will be made available to the public in the coming month.
BC Métis Federation President Henry stated; “This marks the conclusion of the second project administered successfully between CCMA and the BC Métis Federation. Our board recognizes and appreciates the leadership and members from CCMA who participated in the implementation and completion of the Michif language project. This is an important step to ensuring our Métis culture survives and is proudly shared. I thank elder Mary Lucier for her teaching to CCMA members given her lifetime of experience and language knowledge.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded; “We are continuing to work with Heritage Canada to fund the next steps in program delivery. We hope to expand the Michif language programs and hope we can assist the participants in Williams Lake to take next steps in their language education. Thank you to Heritage Canada and the leadership from CCMA to deliver this project which is important to our future.”
