(Vancouver, BC) The BC Métis Federation continues to review information affecting Métis people throughout British Columbia. BC Métis Federation continues to call the other provincial Métis representative organization to task, the Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC), who continues to ignore their own governance mandated processes and misrepresent the democratic will of the Métis people in BC. This has been made even clearer when MNBC announced support for the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines project this past weekend despite a large majority of Métis opposition.
MNBC posted minutes dated September 23rd and there is a clear prior awareness by this MNBC board that they had full and prior knowledge of the need to seek community endorsement prior to supporting the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines Project. A record of decision indicates that Kim Hodgson and Sid Peltier were to represent the MNBC with Enbridge.
BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated; “The minutes say it all to me. The MNBC board knew the process and was aware since last September of the work internally within the MNBC that was required. As we know BCMANR has now come out calling the MNBC actions as illegal and yet MNBC board members carry on as if nothing is wrong.”
President Henry added; “The decision to support Enbridge this past weekend has no legitimate mandate and contravenes their own process. Imagine MNBC leaders have accused us as attempting to tear down the Nation, while they themselves prove their deceit in their own information each day.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “MNBC board members and representative Sid Peltier from Terrace need to be held accountable. This MNBC information proves beyond a doubt MNBC did not respect the role of BCMANR or the voices of the Métis people in BC. I hope Métis people read and realize how completely dysfunctional this all is.”
