(Vancouver, BC) The BC Métis Federation has continued to follow the sale of the Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) property located at 30691 Simpson Road in Abbotsford, BC. This property was purchased by a decision of the MNBC board in June 2009 with no mandate or resolution passed by their members. MNBC borrowed millions and has defended this ill conceived idea as an economic development opportunity of the lifetime.
In August MNBC representatives accused the BC Métis Federation leadership for misleading Métis people in British Columbia regarding public statements made that the MNBC rezoning application was in serious jeopardy. MNBC had a potential buyer but it is our understanding the sale was conditional on the rezoning application. The MNBC rezoning application was denied August 13th and yesterday the City Council from Abbotsford denied the application once again. It is our understanding the inability to sell this property has major implications on the MNBC’s overall financial sustainability.
BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “Once more we are proven 100% correct. The City of Abbotsford denied and we will post the actual video from the presentation by the MNBC representative and subsequent decision to deny the rezoning application so there is no more gossip or misleading statements by any MNBC representatives.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry added, “MNBC representatives have been pushing propaganda for years and this is just the latest issue. Where is the MNBC statement to explain why this fell through? What is their contingency plan?”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “The sale is dead and the video and minute evidence from the City of Abbotsford proves BC Métis Federation has been correct all along. I only hope Métis people and community leaders still watching from the sidelines decide enough is enough. Think of all the statements MNBC leaders and management have made about the sale of the school, about how not to worry, etc. Well they were wrong then and are wrong now. The best alternative for that board is to file for bankruptcy protection and being to ensure programs and services are protected. I hope MNBC members consider their options not to participate in the upcoming MNBC election given this latest major example. Now imagine how much more is correct BC Métis Federation has been saying all along…”
