As Métis people across Canada have witnessed this week, the Métis National Council (MNC) has claimed only Métis come from the homeland.
Nothing could be further from the truth with the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC). So many Métis people and society are uneducated on what the courts have clarified in Canada.
The Métis National Council should be required to read and study paragraph 17 of the 2016 decision by the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC)in the Harry Daniels case.
This paragraph (unanimously approved by all 9 SCC judges) stated that there is no one exclusive Métis People in Canada, and referred specifically to historical Métis in Nova Scotia.
To publicly claim a position about who Métis people are contrary to the Daniels Case is to ignore the Canadian Constitution set forth in Daniels, and the words of Harry Daniels himself.
The fact is the Métis National Council’s self-fabricated map entirely excludes anyone whose Métis ancestry is West of the Rocky Mountains, as well as 80% of Ontario and all the rest of Canada east of the Ontario-Quebec border and most of Northern Canada.
