Vancouver, British Columbia, March 28, 2024 — BC Métis Federation (BCMF) is proud to announce the release of a new video that features BCMF directors and staff sharing their stories and the reasons why their work at BCMF is so meaningful to them.
“It’s so important to take pride in our culture,” said Keith Henry, BCMF President. “Despite efforts to homogenize and erase us, we are dedicated to celebrating our culture and moving forward. This video is a recognition of our unique strengths, and I’m so proud of the team for coming together in this way.”
The video shines a light on BCMF’s primary aim, which is to provide real and tangible support to Métis individuals and families in BC. Whether that is emergency financial assistance in times of need, helping people to find meaningful employment, or fighting for Métis rights—BCMF is like a family and its members feel that.
At the heart of everything BCMF does is Métis culture. The video provides numerous examples of how BCMF is working to revitalize and promote Métis culture. This includes supporting community events across the province and extensive work to encourage the use and protection of the Michif-French language. BCMF wants Métis in BC to be proud of who they are and to reject the shame and stigma that was historically forced upon them by colonial powers.
The video is a must-watch for anyone who wants to learn more about BCMF and the important work it does for Métis in BC. To watch the video in full, click here.
