BC Metis Federation extends our most sincere condolences to the family of Metis elder and veteran Noel Poitras who passed away peacefully yesterday.

Noel was an active member of the Metis community in Surrey and was always present at Nova Metis Heritage Association events. Noel was a proud Metis veteran and served his country and family throughout his life.

BC Metis Federation cultural ambassador Beverly Lambert was present with the family as Noel passed on.

A prayer Noel enjoyed was the Serenity Prayer and we post this prayer in honour of Noel and offer his family our most sincere condolences.

Thank you Noel for all you have done and your presence will be missed by many.

“O God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time. Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace. Taking, as he did, the sinful world as it is, not as I would have it. Trusting that he will make all things right if I surrender to His will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with Him forever.”
