(Fort St. John, BC) BC Metis Federation continues work with partner organizations throughout British Columbia. Yesterday BC Métis Federation assisted the Fort St. John Métis Society (FSJMS) in their latest effort and commitment to support. FSJMS represents over 800 Métis members in the Fort St. John area and has been a strong organization for years. The FSJMS organization faces daily struggles as a representative voice for their Métis people. Therefore yesterday BC Métis Federation participated in a strategic planning session to ensure longer term sustainability. BC Métis Federation provided a $1500.00 contribution towards initial planning for a Louis Riel Event being planned for November 2014.
BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated; “The important daily work of the community organizations, such as FSJMS, is critical to the future. BC Métis Federation prides ourselves on working to build our partner community capacity through events and expertise for longer term sustainability. FSJMS leaders requested our assistance and we were proud to be there and support where we can.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry added; “Thank you to TransCanada who have provided support for Métis cultural events and other initiatives. They have become a strong partner to support Métis communities where possible. In this case BC Métis Federation continued working from our strategic plans where we focus on Métis cultural events together with partner communities. This is a perfect way BC Métis Federation and partners can work together and the results are obvious.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “I look forward to working with FSJMS leadership and plan to attend a future meeting June 9th. There is a lot of positive work in the future and I know together we can better support and assist Métis families in Fort St. John.”
