(Victoria, BC) BC Métis Federation leadership and project team members attended the third Reconciliation Project meeting in Victoria this weekend was warm and welcoming to members and guests in attendance.
BC Metis Federation once again arranged to showcase Métis culture and shared information about the Reconciliation Project launched in partnership between the BC Métis Federation and the Province of British Columbia’s Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation (MIRR). Today marked the third (3rd) of six (6) community-based meetings which will be held throughout British Columbia between August – October.
The attendees reviewed the meeting materials including the rationale explaining the importance of the project while answering specific items on the questionnaire to clarify what Métis people want for future reconciliation in key areas of education, health, children and family services, and other key topic areas. The agenda also included discussions about the Trans Mountain Expansion Project and efforts being made to assemble resumes and training should the project move forward in light of the recent Federal Court decision.
BC Métis Federation President Henry stated, “This was a successful community meeting. People in attendance loved to connect with others and share a traditional style Métis kitchen party with the performance of JJ Lavallee and dancers Rowan and Quinn Pickering.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “We look forward to seeing members and friends in Surrey at the next community event being held at the Surrey Nature Center, 14225 Green Timbers Way starting at 10:00 AM on September 15th. Once again BC Métis Federation is arranging Métis music and cultural celebration.”
