Trans Mountain Expansion – Emergency Response Workshops

(Valemount and Clearwater, BC) BC Métis Federation representatives attended the Kinder Morgan Canada’s Emergency Response Workshops held in Valemount and Clearwater, BC this week. These workshops continue the engagement between BC Métis Federation and Kinder Morgan Canada related to the proposed expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipelines Project.

The Trans Mountain Expansion Project has completed the National Energy Board (NEB) hearings these past few months and the NEB is expected to release a report in the coming months. There is no approval for this project to date and Kinder Morgan Canada continues to address planning and community engagement.

BC Métis Federation President Henry stated; “Our BC Métis representatives attended as per our consultation office process. We continue to gather project information as we know how important environmental protection and safety is for the Métis community in BC. We continue to ensure our members understand the emergency response strategy and how this may or may not include meaningful participation for our members and communities. There is a number of Métis land owners who are directly impacted by this expansion which will significantly increase oil transportation. We will continue to engage and follow up.”
