(North Vancouver, BC) The Vancouver Métis Citizens Society (VMCS), a partner community with the BC Métis Federation, held their Annual General Meeting in North Vancouver at the Delbrook Recreation Center in North Vancouver this last Saturday, November 9th.
The VMCS President Ron Paradis was supported by the board members and a number of members in attendance. Discussions about future cultural events, the proposed Kinder Morgan Canada Transmountain Pipeline Project, and key issues such as Seaspan were the focus of the meeting. BC Métis Federation leadership also attended and provided important updates including recent work with the local School Districts to push for meaningful support of Métis students in the K-12 schools plus a number of other items.
BC Métis Federation President Keith Henry stated, “We continue to be proud to attend these community events, answer questions, and focus on issues relevant to the members of the VMCS. They have a membership base of approximately 700 members largely from Vancouver, Squamish, and the Sunshine Coast. They have specific concerns and requests and BC Métis Federation continues to support their leadership and members were they can.”
BC Métis Federation President Henry concluded, “This is an excellent meeting. We spoke about the importance of support for the Trial of Louis Riel this upcoming weekend and BC Métis Federation agreed to take concrete actions to support specific VMCS identified needs. There was a real feeling of moving forward for the betterment of all and culture was at the center. Thank you President Ron Paradis and the VMCS board members for the successful meeting and open governance.”
