The British Columbia Regional Digitized History is another source that can be useful for our local researchers. More and more content is being digitized by academic partnerships. At the same time, Metis and other British Columbians know that Pacific Northwest Metis history is ignored and hidden by these knowledge institutions.
The question that remains is, will Metis’ local knowledge and voices shape these initiatives in British Columbia? Academic institutions must enter into proper knowledge partnerships with local Metis communities based on trust and accountability. This must meet local Metis goals as they repatriate their history, rebuild relationships and build local capacity.
