Emergency Assistance Program

Important Eligibility Criteria

The Emergency Assistance Program is for Full Members of the BC Métis Federation only (Associate Members are not eligible). If your membership is expired, please renew your membership before applying for assistance.

BC Métis Federation recognizes that its members sometimes need financial assistance when they encounter health related expenses or food security challenges.

Responding to these needs, the BCMF Emergency Assistance Program helps fill the financial gap that can be created when costs start adding up for expenses related to an illness or disability, or when the cost of groceries becomes a challenge.

Health Related Expenses

Full members are able to apply for financial assistance for Health Related Expenses (HRE) related to: COVID-19, essential health equipment, medical supplies, or travel costs for medical appointments.

  • HRE assistance applications will be considered on a first come, first served basis
  • BCMF cannot guarantee a specific duration of time between time of application and distribution of funds
  • If you receive HRE assistance, you are no longer eligible to apply for further HRE assistance until the following year

Food Security

Full members are able to apply to receive $100 to cover the cost of groceries. These Food Security (FS) applications are intended to help members put food on the table.

  • FS assistance applications will be considered on a first come, first served basis
  • BCMF cannot guarantee a specific duration of time between time of application and distribution of funds
  • If you receive FS assistance, you are no longer eligible to apply for further FS assistance until the following year

Please note that BCMF has provided Partner Communities with food security assistance funding. Members who belong to a Partner Community should apply for assistance locally instead of using the BCMF Emergency Assistance Program.

Eligibility

Full Members who have active memberships are eligible to apply for assistance (Associate Members are not currently eligible for assistance). If you are a Full Member and need assistance but have not renewed your membership, you must renew your membership before an application for assistance will be considered.

How to Apply

All applications for assistance must be submitted through the online application form below. The BCMF health team will review all applications received and will follow up with applicants directly for any additional required information and to provide updates on the status of an application.
