The BC Métis Federation (BCMF) and the Peace Region Métis Community Association (PRMCA), alongside valued partners, were proud to host the 2nd Annual Family Jamboree in Fort St. John on June 6th and 7th. The two-day gathering brought together families, community members, and guests from across the region for a vibrant celebration of Métis culture, kinship, and connection.
Friday evening kicked off with laughter and friendly competition during Family Bingo, followed by complimentary hot dogs and lively music. Attendees danced and jigged to the sounds of local favourites, including Country Mavericks, Country Horizon Sounds, Rebel Heart, and Classic Country. The energy was high, and the dance floor stayed busy late into the evening.
Saturday’s events began bright and early with pancakes and the MéTEA Party, continuing through the day with more bingo, games, prizes, and an exciting community auction. Children and families enjoyed concession snacks and fun activities. The musical lineup returned with crowd-pleasing sets from Friday’s bands, joined by a special performance from Art Napoleon & The Smokehouse Jacks, bringing stories, songs, and spirit to the main stage.
More than just a festival, this year’s jamboree was a space for cultural sharing and reconciliation. Through music, dance, and community dialogue, participants honoured Métis heritage and history while building stronger relationships across the region. Traditional dance demonstrations and Métis fiddle music showcased the richness of Métis traditions, preserving the Métis spirit for future generations.
